In Mission Together – The Czech Republic and Slovakia – November 2011

 

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ( Philippians 4:6 ) After all, The Lord is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. ( Proverbs 15:29 )

 

Czech Republic:

 

There are several centers in the Czech District of UMC that provide care for the needed. They operate under an umbrella of Diakonie UMC. Directors of the centers as well as the director of Diakonie ask for prayers:

* wisdom for leadership of the centers, for church councils and steering committees, so that they may find good ways of cooperation (the center and the local church) to the glory of the Lord

 

*enough qualified staff and enough finances

 

* wisdom for directors so that they could keep the quality standards and support employers

We run three activities: Therapeutic community Holy Hill, Half-way house and Work – Social Agency. Please pray for Gods blessings, for the staff so that we may work well and be good examples for non-Christians. Most of our clients do not know Christ. Please pray for them so that they find a way out of their poverty – also spiritual poverty. Please pray for new grants, gifts and for the reconstruction of Holy Hill.

Thank God for His mercy to us shows. Thank you for the older people in our church- they are an example for us and they are our witness of faith. Thank God that protects them. Brother Pisar, 86 years old, fell twice in the summer. Although the front has sewn, but otherwise is fine. One sister Anka had a stroke in the summer- thank God, that her condition had improved.

 

We are grateful for the autumn meeting of “campers under tent” that we have had from September 30 to October 2. Many people were refreshed spiritually.

 

Please pray for reinforce of the our church- we want continue in God’s work. Please pray for brother Michal Francisty, who moved from Slovakia. Let us pray that God strengthened him in solitude and to be able to find work Rev. Milena Belkova

IMT Monthly Prayers – The Czech Republic and Slovakia – September 2011

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world.   A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.   In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

We thank God for blessings of the Softball Camp in July, for the team from TN, for the leader Bob Cantler and their friendship. We meet regularly with participants of the Camp and practice softball. Please pray with us for the outreach.  We have recently prayed for friends with serious health problems and for wisdom of their doctors. The 1st of September we organize afternoon for children and their parents with the name: The School is calling! We pray for all invited, as the ministers and all the interviews that we conducted with guests. We believe that through our Lord appeals to many. The 10th of September we will have a church conference and  youth meeting for which they invited many friends who do not yet know our Lord. At the beginning of the school year 2011/2012 we prepare a full-day event, which will be invited to all Roma children, youth and adults. The program will consist of games, concert of Agape- group from Slavkovce and preaching. Everyone will be able to enjoy a good stew. Please remember this event in your prayers. Also please pray for regular follow-up work with children, adolescents and youth that God changed their lives and that many decided for Jesus. We are now helping her furnish it. On October 16–17 a church picnic will take place in Casta, where we have invited our friends. A team of five Czech Methodists is working alongside of a team from the partner district in the  Buffalo Mountain Camp near Johnson City, Tennessee, USA by September 6. Please pray for safe travels.

A small team from the partner church Settle Memorial UMC, Owensboro, KY is coming to Jablonne to help with a roof of their church house. We pray for  favorable weather.

A new school year starts on September 1. We pray for children, their education and for all the regular activities of churches during the school year.

IMT Monthly Prayers – Czech Republic and Slovakia – August 2010

James 2:17 “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Czech Republic:

We pray for all the special events organized by the Czech churches in the summer months and for safe travels.  We are grateful to the US teams who came and encouraged us. Please pray for the people who participated in the VBS, English Camps, Sport Camps and other activities. Some of them met  Christians for the first time and were exposed to the good news. For example in the Sedlcany English Camp prepared by a team from Tennessee.

Rev. Richard Novak from the Trebon UMC will lead a retreat at the Camp Poust August 7 – 14.

Jiri Simek in Jablonne UMC preaches at the main square of the town on Sundays in August to bring the gospel closer to the people.

A part of the church Plzen – Lochotin went together for a week of holiday to the mountains the first week of August. The church members prepare a program for children from the neighborhood at the end of the month.

Five members of the Czech UMC shall work in the Buffalo Mountain Camp, Tennessee, August 28 – September 6. We pray for blessings of the event. 

Slovakia: 

Please  pray for Roman Bassano who will be attending a conference  July 31 – August 6  in Velletri near Rome.  The theme  is the five practices of fruitful congregations.  

Please pray for those who will be invited to the following events and do not know Christ personally,so that they may find Him here. We also ask for prayers for the organizers and helpers.  

August 6-8 – Tent evangelization in Tahanovce, Kosice.  A team of four from our IMT partner congregation in Dunn, NC will be coming for this event.

August 21 – Evangelization held in City Center Velke Kapusany

IMT Monthly Prayers for the Czech Republic and Slovakia – April 2010

1 Corinthians 12:27-31 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.  And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.  Are all apostles?  Are all prophets?  Are all teachers?  Do all work miracles?  Do all have gifts of healing?  Do all speak in tongues?  Do all interpret?  But eagerly desire the greater gifts.?

Czech Republic

Praha 9 – Horni Pocernice UMC [IMT Partner FUMC, Richardson, TX]

Please pray with us for our Alpha courses, pre-school, for those who cannot attend the church regularly, for newcomers, for Seniors Club, for a good cooperation with the Christian Help Center and the new director Jan Prochazka, and for our partner church FUMC Richardson, TX and the pastors.  Rev.  Plzen  – POINT 14 and SKP [Needs an IMT Partner] – POINT 14 is a new name of the former Teen Challenge Center, SKP is another organizational unit. Both care for programs with addicts. Please pray for encouragement of the servants and presence of God’s power. We face a difficult financial situation because grants from the public authorities were shortened or delayed.  Rev. Protivin UMC [IMT Partners Sandbridge Community Chapel UMC, Virginia Beach, VA and FUMC of Brighton, MI] – We pray for regular church activities, for the ability to approach people outside the church, for the local church in Tyn – we are in a process of reconstruction and need a missionary who would settle there, for a good solution in Bechyne where a church house is, but very few people. We are thankful for the newly opened Center for children and mothers called Crayon, and for our partner churches.  Rev. Filip Jandovsky

Praha 2 – Jecna (Nove Mesto UMC/Majak) [IMT Partner Olive Branch UMC, Gasburg, VA and First UMC, Birmingham, MI] – We had our charge conference recently. We pray for the new committees who would work for the church, for the new opportunities of outreach, for fruits of the VBS in Majak held by our partner church from Virginia, and for the English Camp we prepare in Sedlcany together with a team from Holston Conference in TN.    Rev. Spring School

The pastors training takes place at Hostyn, a beautiful hill in the eatsern part of Moravia, April 11-16. All Czech pastors are meeting lecturers from Johnson City, TN, Reutlingen, Germany, as well as Slovak and Czech ones. Please pray for blessings so that the event might be good for participants and the church.  Rev. Jana Krizova

Slovakia 

The Slovakia District – We ask for prayers for the second 40-day chain of prayers and fasting in the UMC in Slovakia.  The theme is Hebrews 13:15-16.  We are starting on April 1.  The District Conference takes place April 9 – 10.  It is a time when we together evaluate past year and look ahead to the new one.  Without prayers and contemplation it is not possible to fully utilize such moments.  We also ask for prayers for those who will minister to us.  May the Word be good food for each of us there.  Supt. Bratislava mesto UMC [IMT Partner University Park UMC, Dallas, TX]
In the coming time we would like to concentrate on evaluating the condition of our congregation.   In the first part of 40-day prayers God spoke to us, encouraged us and ensured us about His love and mercy.  We want to seek His face and search ourselves in the light of His Word, so that we could bear fruit in the ministry on His vineyard.  Please pray for young families and youth in our neighborhood.  We continue to pray for God’s leadership in finding the right approach to these groups of people.  May God bless you!  Rev.  Gerlachov Mission Station [IMT Partner Memorial Drive UMC, Houston, TX] –  Please pray for children and youth and the whole families of whom we serve here.  I especially ask for prayers for a young lady who is fighting cancer.  Her name is Judith and has two small children.  She needs spiritual assistance as well as financial assistance to help buy medicine.  We also continue to pray for an establishment of a small home group.  Rev. Michalovce UMC, Slovakia [Needs an IMT Partner] – Please pray for our follow-up work with people who believe.  We also continue to pray for strength and power and more endurance to do the things we have decided to do as a congregation.  Also pray for our children and youth and the kid’s club “Ant”, so that new children would come.  Rev.  Pavle Kocev 

Partizanske UMC, Slovakia [Needs an IMT Partner] – We are grateful for blessed ecumenical worship service and the possibility to continue in further cooperation.  We are also grateful for blessed Bible studies.  We ask for prayers for the ministry with gypsy children and youth which was started in February.  Rev. Piestany UMC, Slovakia [Needs an IMT Partner] – We are thankful for new opportunities to preach the gospel.  We thank God for the family Jansik and pray that they are able to find jobs.  We are planning a hand-chime concert before Easter and ask God for his blessing and leadership for this event.  We also ask for prayers for a successful sanitive weekend for children in the orphanage in Kocurice and their biological families.  We ask God for guidance of Daniela when attending the Bible school in Oslo and taking care of her there.  Rev. Petrzalka UMC [IMT Partner Memorial Drive UMC, Houston, TX] – We long for unity of our congregation, so that we could live what Jesus prayed for. We would like to be the real Kingdom of God on Earth, where we like to come, like to invite our friends. Please, also pray for a building in Petrzalka which nobody wants but our congregation would very much like to have it. We would like to start a half-way house there for children leaving orphanages and would also like to have our own sanctuary there. That is why we are asking God to open the door for us at the city authorities. It is quite possible that we will be able to get this building for a symbolical price.  Rev. Branislav Schmogrovits

Czech District – The district meeting takes place in Plzen on Saturday, March 6th.  We pray for the event and for the new church council.  Rev. Petr Prochazka  

Jihlava UMC, Czech Republic [IMT Partner McEachern Memorial UMC, Powder Springs, GA] –  We started new Alpha course in Velky Beranov near Jihlava and prepare other outreach activities for children with our partner church.   Please pray for the participants and the teams.  The director for the Center for homeless men is retiring.  We pray for a new person as well as the center itself.  Please pray also for the Center – asylum house for mothers and children.  Rev. Jan Zajic 

Brno UMC, Czech Republic [IMT Partner Calvary UMC, Paris, TX] – We are grateful for the power of prayers.  Please pray with us for the elderly in our church and for children.  We prepare Bible studies and other events open for public and pray for guests who would attend.  Rev.  Jana Krizova 

Plzen – Lochotin UMC, Czech Republic – We thank God for new people coming to our churches in Lochotin and in Horsovsky Tyn.  Our outreach activities (Mothers Center and Alpha courses) go well.  We would like to start a new local church in Plzen.  Please pray for us so that we may be faithful witnesses to the Lord Jesus.  Rev.  Zdenek Eberle
